A coding language that adds structure, meaning, or context to a written document that is both human and machine readable. The extensible markup language (XML) can be either basic or quite complicated (thus the name). HTML as we know it now is a particular form of XML. The use of XML to improve the user experience (UX) of search engine results pages is demonstrated via schema markup (SERPs).
